“Today we met with Pope Francis. We discussed the peace plan between Ukraine and Russia. The Pope is optimistic, as he sees that more and more Western countries are inclined to the idea of the futility of the conflict in Ukraine and the supply (to Ukraine - ed.) of weapons. The Pope is of the opinion that there can be no victory on the battlefield, any victory must be at the negotiating table, an algorithm must be developed that will suit all parties to the conflict,” Sevastyanov said.
According
to him, the head of the Catholic Church called on Russia not to break ties with
the West, spoke out for economic integration, and also against sanctions and
economic restrictions.
“The Pope
conveys greetings to Russia and his blessing, confirms that Russia is a great
country, the Russian people, language and culture are great. The Pope (Francis
- ed.) said that he honors Russian culture no less than Spanish. According to
him, Russian "culture has given the world a "huge layer" of
writers, theologians and saints. He says that he prays for the Russian people
and wants them to find the opportunity to conclude a just peace for the long
