The digital book of condolence of the Tagespost-Foundation, founded by Benedict XVI.

An exclusive interview with Archbishop Georg Gänswein
(Guido Horst, Die Tagespost Stiftung) Pope Benedict XVI is dead. He died today at the age of 95 in the Vatican.
He is now lying in state in the Mater Ecclesia monastery in the Vatican Gardens in Rome until the funeral services begin.
Archbishop Georg Gänswein, his private secretary for many years, accompanied him in his final hours:
"Papa emerito said to me and to all those who accompanied him in his last hours, "Please pray for me!" - I would like to pass on this request of the Pope Emeritus to all those whom his death touches.
For myself, his death means a great and personal loss. I am deeply grateful and at the same time very sad."
Benedict XVI died strengthened with the Holy Sacraments and full of hope for the Kingdom of God.
The Tagespost Foundation for Catholic Journalism bows its head in respect and deep sorrow before a great Pope and teacher of the Church.
A digital book of condolence is now available on the web portal www.benedictusXVI.org. People who wish to express their gratitude for his life and work or their grief can do so here. The condolence page invites mourners to pray together with classical prayers from the Catholic liturgy for the dead.
At the same time as the written condolence, a "virtual" candle is lit in memory of the deceased pontiff.
