The outgoing leader of Hong Kong’s Roman Catholic community, Cardinal John Tong, said today that he has "absolute confidence” in his successor, Coadjutor Bishop Michael Yeung, whom he says is better than himself "in every respect.” Tong, 78, is retiring after leading the Catholic diocese here for the past eight years. He took over from Cardinal Joseph Zen in 2009. The Vatican was expected to make an official announcement at 6pm Hong Kong time on Tuesday, and the diocese will celebrate Yeung’s appointment on Saturday. (...)
