Archbishop Lwanga decries increasing cases of divorce

(Sadat Mbogo) Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese has decried the rising cases of divorce in Uganda citing lack of trust and fighting among married couples as the some of the causes. "You should always love and support each other to the fullest. Love your spouse like you do to your life. You have to know the role of the sacrament of holy matrimony and ensure that whatever you do is based on Christian norms and values," he said. (...)

Il parlamento dell’Uganda ha approvato una legge che abolisce la pena di morte obbligatoria per alcuni reati, modificando quattro diverse leggi che in precedenza prescrivevano la pena capitale, tra cui la legge anti-terrorismo, secondo quanto riportato dalla BBC. L’annuncio è stato dato martedì e se approvati dal presidente Yoweri Museveni, gli emendamenti limiteranno la pena di morte ai reati più gravi, a discrezione del giudice. (...)

In questo momento benedetto, il Successore di Pietro e Vicario di Cristo, mette piede per la prima volta nella storia sul suolo d’Africa.
Noi rendiamo grazie a Dio per questo grande favore di un nuovo incontro con i popoli dell’Africa, che abbiamo cominciato a conoscere, ammirare e amare in occasione della. visita a questo vasto Continente sin da quando eravamo Arcivescovo di Milano e, poi, delle visite fatteci a Roma da Capi di Stato africani, da Ambasciatori, Vescovi, sacerdoti e fedeli. Siano rese grazie a Dio anche per le meraviglie della Sua grazia abbondantemente elargite a questo Continente e per la generosa risposta dell’Africa al messaggio evangelico; risposta della quale vi portiamo il Nostro riconoscimento con il pellegrinaggio al Santuario dei Martiri dell’Uganda, il cui sangue ha intriso la Croce di Cristo qui piantata dai primi missionari e la cui testimonianza all’amore più alto ha procurato onore e fama a tutta l’Africa.

Il cardinale Philippe Nakellentuba Ouédraogo, arcivescovo di Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), è il nuovo presidente del Simposio delle Conferenze episcopali di Africa e Madagascar (Secam). Il porporato, che è stato eletto a Kampala, in Uganda, durante i lavori dell’assemblea plenaria svoltasi nel cinquantesimo anniversario della nascita del Secam, succede all’arcivescovo di Lubango, monsignor Gabriel Mbilingi.

1. The celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) and its 18th Plenary Assembly took place from 19 to 29 July 2019, in Kampala (Uganda), on the theme “Church Family of God in Africa, celebrate your jubilee, proclaim Jesus Christ your Saviour”. At the end of this Plenary Assembly, which was devoted to pastoral reflections on the theme “That they may know Christ and have life in abundance” (Jn 17:3; 10:10). We, the Pastors address this Message to the Church Family of God in Africa and Madagascar
