In virtù di quanto disposto nel Codice di Diritto Canonico riguardo il compimento dei 75 anni l'attuale arcivescovo della capitale della Tanzania, cardinale P. Pengo, ha fatto già pervenire al Santo Padre la lettera di rinuncia alla carica assunta 27 anni fa (22 luglio 1992).
Il Cardinale Polycarp Pengo, Arcivescovo Metropolita di Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania), è nato il 5 agosto 1944 nella parrocchia di Mwazye, nella Diocesi di Sumbawanga, in Tanzania. Ha studiato nel Seminario preparatorio di Karema dal 1957 al 1959. In seguito, fino al 1964, ha frequentato il Seminario Minore di Kaengesa. Nel 1965 è entrato nel Seminario Maggiore di Kipalapala per il triennio di filosofia (1965-1967) e per il quadriennio di teologia (1968-1971).

The newly consecrated archbishop of Mwanza Renatus Nkwande has called upon Tanzanians to reject witchcraft, homosexuality and abortion. Speaking after he was ordained the new bishop of Mwanza archdiocese on May 12 at the Kawekamo grounds in Mwanza city Nkwande said the three vices were gross sinning against God. “I am always saddened when I see people blaming witchcraft on the smallest of ailments that they get. This is ignorance and lack of faith in God,” archbishop Nkwande noted. Issues of homosexuality and abortion are caused by the habit of adopting the cultural practices of others. (...)
