Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said after an audience with Pope Francis in the Vatican on Thursday that the role of the Holy See in talks on future relations between Serbs and Croats was very important, stressing that as Serbia's president he would like the pope to visit Serbia but that his visit was a matter to be decided by the Serb Orthodox Church. "It is clear to everyone that we are divided by history and by the past, that we have completely opposite views of past events... I fear that if we fail to be responsible and continue to talk about the past, we will strengthen all the others and weaken ourselves," Vučić said, adding "We must respect one another more." (...)

Domani in Vaticano il Presidente della Serbia Aleksandar Vučić. Sarà ricevuto dal Santo Padre e poi dal cardinale Segretario di Stato Pietro Parolin. Giorni fa il Presidente ha dichiarato di considerare molto importante questa visita poiché è un'occasione per "pregare la Santa sede di non riconoscere il Kosovo".
Aleksandar Vučić, è nato a Belgrado, 5 marzo 1970. E' Presidente della Repubblica di Serbia dal maggio 2017, e presidente del Partito Progressista Serbo. E' stato primo ministro della Serbia dall'aprile 2014 al maggio 2017. La sua scheda Wikipedia sottolinea: "Nel 1993 dopo l'esperienza giornalistica inizia la sua carriera politica diventando membro del Partito Radicale Serbo (SRS), formazione nazionalista di destra guidata da Vojislav Šešelj.

La bandiera del Kosovo, issata ieri sulla fortezza medioevale serba di Novo Brdo (località a maggioranza serba nel territorio kosovaro), è stata rimossa oggi. Lo ha annunciato il capo del municipio di Novo Brdo citato dall'emittente "Rtk2". Svetislav Ivanovic ha spiegato che le autorità locali, dopo aver visitato il sito, hanno constatato che la bandiera era già stata rimossa questa mattina. Ivanovic ha precisato che le autorità locali non sono state informate della bandiera issata e di aver appreso di ciò solamente dai media. Le rovine della fortezza e della chiesa annessa di Novo Brdo sono diventate in questi giorni una questione di tensione tra Belgrado e Pristina, dopo che le autorità kosovare hanno permesso ai preti cattolici albanesi di servire messa in questo sito storico cristiano ortodosso. La Chiesa ortodossa serba ha protesta contro lo svolgimento di cerimonie di rito cattolico a Bovo Brdo e il ministro della Cultura di Belgrado ha inviato una nota al Vaticano per denunciare l'accaduto.

(Peter Anderson) Today, several websites have posted the news that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has written a letter to Montenegro President Milo Đukanović expressing “consternation” that the President supports the creation of a separate Orthodox Church of Montenegro.  In this regard, the letter states that the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and all other Orthodox Churches, recognize as the only canonical Orthodox jurisdiction in Montenegro, the jurisdiction under Metropolitan Amfilohije of the Serbian Patriarchate.

(Dusan Stojanovic) A Serbian government official on Wednesday branded Montenegro a “criminal” state and urged a “fierce” response over the neighboring country’s plans to introduce a new church law that has strained relations between the two former Balkan allies. The Montenegrin draft church law calls for all religious communities in the country to provide proof that they owned their property before 1918, when the small Adriatic state lost its independence and became part of the Serb-dominated Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. If they don’t, the property becomes state owned.
