Since his appointment by Pope Francis as Apostolic Nuncio to five countries in Southern Africa, American Archbishop, Peter Wells reintroduced “Pope’s Day”. The annual celebration of the Vatican’s national day, on or near the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, began with a mass concelebrated by a number of bishops and local clergy from the region and was followed by a reception at the Vatican’s embassy. Alle ore 10 di questa mattina, nella Sala Clementina del Palazzo Apostolico, il Santo Padre Francesco ha ricevuto in Udienza gli Ecc.mi Ambasciatori di Tanzania, Lesotho, Pakistan, Mongolia, Danimarca, Etiopia e Finlandia in occasione della presentazione delle Lettere Credenziali.  Di seguito pubblichiamo il discorso che il Papa ha rivolto ai nuovi Ambasciatori nonché i cenni biografici essenziali di ciascuno:

Eccellenze,
Sono lieto di ricevervi in occasione della presentazione delle Lettere con le quali venite accreditati presso la Santa Sede come Ambasciatori straordinari e plenipotenziari dei vostri Paesi: Tanzania, Lesotho, Pakistan, Mongolia, Danimarca, Etiopia e Finlandia. Vorrei cortesemente chiedervi di trasmettere i miei sentimenti di gratitudine e di rispetto ai vostri Capi di Stato, con l’assicurazione della mia preghiera per loro e per i vostri concittadini.

Every three years the bishops of Southern Africa meet to reflect on a pre-determined theme and elect new leadership. The body, known as the Inter-Regional Meeting of the Bishops of Southern Africa (I.M.B.I.S.A.), just completed its 11th plenary session in Maseru, Lesotho, on Nov. 26. During the 11th plenary session held in Maseru (Lesotho), a new IMBISA standing committee was elected. Three members were elected during the plenary and the rest were appointed by the different Bishops' conferences members of IMBISA. Lucio Andrice Muandula, bishop of Xai-Xai, Mozambique (fourth from left) is the new president following the two terms done by Bishop Frank Nubuasah SDV (Francistown, Botswana). (...)

Assente nel Concistoro di sabato il futuro primo cardinale del Lesotho

(Francesco Gagliano - ©copyright) La Congregazione degli Oblati di Maria Immacolata ha confermato al Sismografo che mons. Sebastian Koto Khoarai, vescovo emerito di Mohale’s Hoek, nel Lesotho, non sarà presente al Concistoro del 19 novembre, nel quale Papa Francesco creerà 17 nuovi cardinali. Mons. Koto, 87 anni, non gode della salute necessaria per affrontare il viaggio che dal Sudafrica dovrebbe portarlo in Italia: per questa ragione si è scelto di consegnare al presule i simboli cardinalizi in un altro modo. La berretta e l'anello cardinalizio saranno consegnati al neo porporato in una cerimonia speciale, nei prossimi giorni, con ogni probabilità dal Nunzio presso il Sudafrica e Lesotho, mons. Peter Brayn Wells.

(LB) Mons. Sebastian Koto Khoarai, Oblato di Maria Immacolata,  vescovo Emerito di Mohale’s Hoek (Lesotho), futuro cardinale della Chiesa ha compiuto nel settembre scorso 87 anni. Esercita il ministero sacerdotale da quasi 60 anni e insieme con l'altro futuro porporato, padre Ernest Simoni, Presbitero dell’Arcidiocesi di Shkodrë-Pult (Scutari – Albania), nato nel 1928, è fra i più anziani dell'elenco annunciato ieri da Papa Francesco. Nel suo piccolo Paese è una figura molto amata e rispettata, anche oltre i confini del mondo cristiano, confessione religiosa maggioritaria.

S.E. Mons. Sebastian Koto Khoarai, O.M.I, è nato a Koaling, in diocesi di Leribe, l’11 settembre 1929.
Entrato negli Oblati di Maria Immacolata, è stato ordinato sacerdote il 21 dicembre 1956.
Elevato all’episcopato il 10 novembre 1977 come ordinario di Mohale’s Hoek, è stato consacrato il 2 aprile 1978.
