The humanitarian situation. The armed conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk/Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine continued. In late June, the parties to the conflict agreed to a ceasefire, to begin on 1 July; until it could be implemented, civilians remained at risk of injury from gunfire, shelling, mines and explosive remnants of war (ERW). Hundreds of people were missing in connection with the conflict. Communities along the contact line1 – which separated government-controlled areas from non-government-controlled areas – were severely affected by the fighting.
