Muslim leads in Jakarta poll against Christian governor

A Muslim former government minister took a strong lead on Wednesday over Jakarta’s Christian incumbent governor in a divisive run-off election that has stoked religious tensions in Muslim-majority Indonesia. Anies Baswedan was on 56-57% in the fight to lead Jakarta compared to 41-43% for Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, who is battling for his job as he stands trial for blasphemy, according to early counts from several private pollsters.
