The Vatican diplomacy is actively extending its influence in Asia. Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) will be the 183rd state to have full diplomatic relations with the Holy See, after the country's Parliament approved on March 10 a request from the Vatican. In Myanmar, according to Italian Catholic daily L'Avvenire, Catholics make up just 1% of the population: the agreement is a sign that Pope Francis's Vatican nevertheless attracts strong political attention.
