38 martyrs of Albanian Catholic Church beatified

Thirty eight Catholic martyrs, who were killed between 1945 and 1974 by the communist regime in Albania, have been beatified by the Vatican, a move to put them among the most revered figures the Catholic church, foreign reports said. Presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, the beatification ceremony took place on Saturday in the Square of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Albania's northeastern city of Shkodra, according to Vatican Radio, the official broadcasting service of the Holy See, and other media outlets.
